Jump, a popular Japanese gaming magazine, recently published a rumor stating Nintendo will “shock the world” with a Splatoon 2 announcement on June 9, just three days before E3. Nintendo is usually quiet on the rumor front, but the company decided to shoot down this rumor – with a caveat, that is. Here’s what Nintendo said regarding the possible announcement:

Although we do not normally comment on rumors and speculation, we can confirm that, contrary to the rumors circulating since yesterday, the Japanese weekly magazine in question has not written any article about an announcement related to Splatoon for June 9. With which, it is a baseless rumour.”

The wording of their statement is suspect to misinterpretation, which, usually, means an announcement of some sorts is on the way. Splatoon 2 is a massive Switch title and Nintendo adding a huge new feature or mode to the game wouldn’t be a surprise to the nearly 20 million Switch owners out there. That said, however, only time will tell if this rumor comes to fruition.

What do you make of this situation? Is Nintendo planning something big for Splatoon 2, or is this really just a baseless rumor? Speculate below!
