After Splatoon 2’s Chaos versus Order Splatfest ended with a clean sweep for Team Chaos, Nintendo uploaded a “Thank You” video to celebrate the end of a successful two years of Splatfests. The video is viewable below.
Team Order vs. Team Chaos is not quite as blatant as the original Splatoon’s Callie versus Marie Final Fest, order and chaos are pretty much perfect descriptions for Marina and Pearl, respectively, and in many ways that is what this Splatfest felt like, at least for me. I missed a lot of the game’s many, many Splatfests in the last year because I had never gotten around to setting up Nintendo Online, but I finally bit the bullet just before Splatoon 2’s Final Fest began, and I do not regret it. Chaos versus Order was a lot of fun, with excellent Shifty Station variants and beautiful gold and silver ink colors. Being the Final Fest, hype levels were through the roof, and that energy was contagious and consistent throughout the weekend as Splatoon 2‘s final Splatfest carried on.
Now that the Splatfest is over, many are left wondering what the future of the franchise holds. Splatoon is massive, especially in Japan, so it will not be gone for long, but it turns out that even Nintendo is unsure of what comes next for the series. With a large active playerbase, Splatoon 3 is not immediately necessary, but going a very long time without Splatfests does not seem very likely either.
