All good things must come to an end, and Splatfests are no exception to the rule. After two years since the game’s launch, Splatoon 2 will end its own share of Splatfests with a pretty loaded question: “Which world would you choose? Chaos or Order?” Pitting players between Pearl and Marina one last time, the final Splatfest — dubbed “Splatocalypse” — will coincide with Splatoon 2‘s second anniversary.
The Splatocalypse is nigh
The final Splatfest debuts on July 18 at 5:00 AM PT and will run until July 21 for 72 hours. On top of a new Shifty Station stage, which will premiere during the final day, all twenty-three Shifty Stations from previous Splatfests will return as well for the first 48 hours. As for team-specific special gear, Splatfest participants can choose between wild, Chaos-appropriate headgear or slick, futuristic Order headgear.
We knew support for Splatoon 2 would be winding down soon, but Nintendo has one last surprise before bowing out. Following Splatocalypse, the Version 5.0 update will drop for the game, adding “Turf War (Splatfest)” in Private Battle modes. This will allow players to enjoy all 24 Shifty Station stages from every past Splatfest at their leisure, including daytime and nighttime variations.
Given the result of the original Splatoon‘s final Splatfest and how it impacted Splatoon 2‘s story mode, I wonder if the same will be said following Splatocalypse. Would Chaos incite a turbulent and lawless future in a possible Splatoon 3? Or, should Order emerge victorious, would an overbearing higher authority keep things a little too uniform in Inkopolis? We may just decide that in this event.
That said, we would like to hear from you! What were some of your favorite Splatfests over the past two years? Which side will you choose on July 18? Share your thoughts with us in the comments!
