Sports Story, the upcoming sequel to Golf Story, has been delayed out of summer 2020. The team posted a “delay trailer” alongside the announcement, which comes as unfortunate news for Golf Story fans. The Nintendo Switch exclusive now no longer has a release window. Developer Sidebar Games will update fans as progress on development is made.
The game was initially revealed during December’s Indie World Showcase last year. As the title suggests, this one follows up on Golf Story by including a wide range of different sports. Sports Story will stick with the first game’s throwback visuals and quirky characters. The RPG elements remain in place too, so this will be a true successor.

Sidebar Games followed up the announcement with some tweets explaining the delay. The developer wants “to take some more time to work on Sports Story and ensure that everything makes it into the game.”
The team’s ambition seems to have contributed to the delay, as Sports Story grows in scope: “The game has become rather ambitious and we are excited about how it could turn out. But the price is currently being paid as we try to make our plans into reality. We are eager to reveal the results of these past 2 years so please look forward to future updates.”
Hopefully, Sports Story releases in the not-too-distant future.
