A month after we learned that the Spyro Reignited Trilogy on Switch has a relatively small 6.3 GB preload (about a tenth of the size of the PS4 version), a Redditor discovered that the physical version of the game comes with a mandatory 8.7 GB download.
Required downloads like this always drive me bonkers. With my 1 Mbps internet speeds, this update would be an all-day affair. Activision could have opted for larger game cartridges to pack everything in without requiring an update, but that unsurprisingly will not be the case.
Spyro Reignited Trilogy will be out next Tuesday. On Switch, the collection joins other recent Activision remakes, the Crash N. Sane Trilogy and Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled. It will hopefully maintain the high-quality standards as its peers regardless of the mandatory download.
The future is finally bright for Crash and Spyro. After Spyro Reignited Trilogy‘s Switch release, Activision has announced that we can start looking to the future for new content starring each lovable mascot–the excellent Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled has already added a few new race tracks, but now, we should be able to expect new games. The team at Toys for Bob has gotten a lot of practice in their loving recreations of these classic titles, so they will hopefully be able to demonstrate a very sound understanding of what makes Crash and Spyro great while moving each series forward.
Will you be picking up the Spyro Reignited Trilogy on Switch? Do you have enough room on your SD card? How do you feel about the mandatory download? Let us know in the comments.
