The long-awaited Streets of Rage 4 is nearly upon us. After debunking a faulty eShop listing of an April 23 release date, Dotemu revealed today that the game will debut on Switch and other systems on April 30. On top of that, Dotemu gave us a new trailer that reveals the return of Streets of Rage 2‘s Battle Mode. Check it out below.
Battle Mode features eight different arenas, and can be played in traditional free-for-all or team variants. It’ll be a great incentive to return to Streets of Rage 4 again and again and again to duke it out with your friends. Of course, the rest of the game looks pretty awesome as well. It’s hard to believe that it’s almost here. Here’s what Dotemu had to say about the long-awaited return of the series:
Streets of Rage 4 is the franchise’s first mainline entry in more than 25 years, reuniting Axel, Blaze, and Adam while introducing fresh fighters and combat depth, an arrestingly fluid hand-drawn art style, and an all-new scenario as well as city boroughs to crack skulls in. With an original soundtrack from Olivier Derivière incorporating worldwide talent, including massive contributions from series composers Y?z? Koshiro and Motohiro Kawashima, Streets of Rage 4’s pairing of classic elements with distinctive modern direction makes this highly anticipated return the fight of a lifetime.
We’ve also been anticipating Streets of Rage 4 for a long time here at NintendoEnthusiast. Check out our own Arthur Damian’s PAX preview of the game, where he lauded some very high praise upon the title, calling the game “euphoric” and an improvement on everything already great about the beat ’em up genre.
