Today has been a bit of a rollercoaster for fans of the upcoming co-op brawler Streets of Rage 4. It initially seemed like an eShop listing that went up earlier today revealed that the game would be arriving on Nintendo Switch on April 23, but publisher DotEmu was quick to confirm that this date was not correct. Thankfully, the team at DotEmu made up for the sudden disappointment with an absolutely mind-shattering new trailer for the game that shows off a suite of old-school unlockables that fans can dig into when the game arrives this year.
The new Retro Reveal trailer for Streets of Rage 4 shows off a dozen unlockable characters that have been lifted straight from the last three Streets of Rage games. Old-school versions of Axel and Blaze are playable, as well as other unforgettable brawlers from Streets of Rage past like Max and Dr. Zan. Each of these characters retains all of their original sprite artwork, sharpened to HD standards and implemented into the gorgeous world of the new game flawlessly.
If that wasn’t enough for you, fans of the incredibly iconic music from the first two games will be happy to know that the full soundtracks for Streets of Rage 1 and 2 can be enabled as background music in Streets of Rage 4, letting you crack skulls and jam out to those oh-so unforgettable Yuzo Koshiro jams.
Streets of Rage 4 is set to launch on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC sometime soon.
