Today is the day. After first being revealed in the Super Mario Bros. 35th Anniversary Direct back in September 2020, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury has launched on Nintendo Switch. It is an upgraded version of Super Mario 3D World that appeared on Wii U and was criminally underplayed due to Wii U’s depressingly small install base. The 4-player co-op game enjoys a variety of enhancements, plus an entirely new mode in Bowser’s Fury. But before getting into specifics, just watch and enjoy the Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury launch trailer that was released today.
Potentially the most useful but also easy-to-miss change to spot in the Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury launch trailer is that everybody moves faster than they did on Wii U. Maybe you’ll stay alive longer then! There’s also a Snapshot Mode with stamps and filters to place to create festive images of your gameplay.
Meanwhile, Bowser’s Fury is a brand new mode in an open-world area that reportedly takes around three hours to beat (but not to fully complete every task), and it offers two-player co-op for Mario and Bowser Jr. They must collect Cat Shines to unlock the Giga Bell, which will allow Mario to transform into a giant cat warrior to battle Fury Bowser, a gigantic and horrifying version of regular Bowser. Kaiju mayhem will result.
