Super Monkey Ball: Banana Mania

We don’t get very many Super Monkey Ball games nowadays, and we get even fewer good games in the series, but we might have another chance at that soon according to recent leaks of Super Monkey Ball: Banana Mania, a new title in the series. The title has been popping up on ratings boards all over the place as of late, and now, cover art and screenshots are floating around Twitter, courtesy of @NilsAhrDE. Check both out below.

After cementing its own corner in the niche marble roller genre, the franchise lost its way by depending too much on gimmicks, losing the excellent level design of the first two games, and tanking the minigame selection. That’s why so many fans would almost rather see a remaster of the first two Super Monkey Ball games than a brand new title, leaving new content to up-and-coming indie devs like the team behind Rolled Out! Here’s some good news: it’s hard to tell, but those screenshots above each show content from Super Monkey Ball 2, indicating that Super Monkey Ball: Banana Mania might be the remake so many of us want after all. On the top left, you have the Monkey Dogfight minigame, while the remaining pictures appear to contain classic stages Slopes, Inchworms, or Zigzag Slopes on the top right, Chipped Pipes on the bottom left, and maybe Curve Bridge on the last one (thanks to @interval_1 on Twitter for pointing this out, and thanks to franchise superfan me for verifying). These seem to indicate that, at the very least, some levels from the classic Super Monkey Ball 2 will appear in Super Monkey Ball: Banana Mania. My hope goes beyond that – I want a remake of Super Monkey Ball Deluxe with added content, but I’ll be on board with anything that involves the series getting back to its roots.

We’ll hopefully see this rumor confirmed soon – perhaps in a certain E3 presentation later today – but in the meantime, what do you think? Do you believe that Super Monkey Ball: Banana Mania is the real deal? Do you think it will be a brand new game, or a remake of older titles? Let us know in the comments below.
