Fans of the long-dormant Super Monkey Ball franchise like myself have something pretty promising to look forward to, and it isn’t the recently filed trademark for the series. A new project called Rolled Out! has been successfully funded on Indiegogo, and in fact has nearly doubled its $25,000 goal at the time of this post, hitting its first two stretch goals. This marble roller takes a lot of inspiration from the first two Super Monkey Ball games, right down to having animals in translucent balls, but also promises to bring the genre into the modern age with custom level support and online multiplayer. Most importantly, it looks like it will be an absolute blast to play.
The gameplay in the video above has me very excited. Rolled Out! really looks like it can be the modernized love letter to Super Monkey Ball that the developers call it. Aiming to launch with 310 levels across five difficulties, an in-game level editor, and party games, Rolled Out! is looking to make a splash.
While the project is currently slated for PC, the developers have directly teased a possible Switch release on their Indiegogo page:
If we go far enough, we might even see [pause for dramatic effect…]
A release on the Nintendo Switch…? Well, we’ll see.
I’m on board. The Indiegogo page currently estimates a release on Steam around December 2019. Hopefully, they can reach this without trouble and follow through with a Switch release not soon after. If Sega won’t give us a good Super Monkey Ball game, someone’s got to, right?
