If you played the original Super Monkey Ball games on GameCube way back when, you probably remember the iconic voice of announcer Matt Brian (Ready? Go!). Lately, Matt has enjoyed a bit of a surge in popularity among series fans (he really just seems like an enthusiastic, cool guy, so that’s probably why), and he’s been teasing a return for the series on social media. Check out his recent Instagram posts, where he mentions that September will be “an amazing month” while also referencing a mysterious Super Monkey Ball X. Is a new game on the way?

Playing a friend’s Switch. SuperMonkeyBall of course! I need to stop shouting out “Ready, Go!” You all understand. September will be amazing for what’s to come. #sega @segaofficial @super_monkeyball @babylonian #supermonkeyball @segaofficial @nintendolife @nintendoswitchcanada
A return to the series by Brian Matt could mean exciting things for Super Monkey Ball. The Banana Blitz remake marked a disappointing return for the series, which had previously been on a long hiatus – it was quite disconcerting that Sega chose to focus on one of the first games in the series’ downhill decline into gimmickry and lazy levels. With any luck, Sega will eventually realize that they have been trying to fix a formula that never broke. Bringing back Brian Matt is a fun gesture, but hopefully, the gameplay in whatever new Super Monkey Ball game he is teasing similarly harkens back to the first games in the franchise.
