The first official Nintendo theme park will now open in spring 2021 in Universal Studios Japan, following a delay after the 2020 Summer Olympics were canceled. Super Nintendo World is being built in Osaka. There are also plans to expand to more Universal locations in the future, in locations like Hollywood, Orlando, and Singapore. There is still something coming this year though: Nintendo will open a Mario Cafe & Store in the “Hollywood” area of Universal Studios Japan next week on Oct. 16. Ahead of the opening, some renders of the building have been released, showing what it’ll look like inside.
Of course, the Mario Cafe & Store will sell a variety of Nintendo merchandise. There are shirts, cushions, and more, and Nintendo has shown them off too, alongside some of what will be available at the café. That Cappy pancake sandwich looks damn good. This will surely hold fans over till Super Nintendo World proper opens.
This summer, we learned about the Super Nintendo World Japan delay, but that didn’t quell our excitement too much. Shortly after the announcement, videos were posted online showing the place being built, and it looks beautiful. Like a Mario level come to life, Super Nintendo World looks like it will provide us all with the relief we’ll need after 2020. Let’s hope those U.S. locations aren’t too far behind. And frankly, a Mario Cafe & Store at Universal Studios locations in the interim wouldn’t hurt either.
