Nintendo Switch - Red Retail Boxes

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, then you must have definitely heard of the coronavirus by now. Having popped up basically by the time calendars rolled over to 2020, the coronavirus has become steadily more and more discussed over the past few weeks. While the direct effect is, of course, the unfortunate infection and subsequent deaths of those who come in contact with the virus, the disease is also having an effect on productivity—including the production of new Switch units.

China manufactures a lot of different things, and it also happens to be the main production arena for Nintendo. As a result of the virus, people dwelling in China have been needing to take extra precautions. This thus leads to a disruption in the workforce. As a result, Nintendo of Japan has recently posted a formal apology for the stock shortages of products like new Switch units.

While this apology does specifically refer to shipments being sent to Japan, there is a chance that stock shortages will also come about in other markets too. Industry analyst Daniel Ahmad provided some context to this via a Tweet:

Since the coronavirus epidemic has yet to be controlled, there is currently no telling exactly how long this manufacturing disturbance will last. In the meantime, here’s hoping that all of the hard-working folk in China stay as safe possible. And if you happen to be in an area where the coronavirus has made it into, the same hope goes to you.
