Tetris 99, the other battle royale game with a stealth announcement and free same-day release in February, is taking the world by storm. The simple package is about to get a little more robust thanks to some upcoming modes discovered by dataminers.
Currently, Tetris 99 only has one basic mode. You and 98 other players load into a free-for-all Tetris tournament to see who comes out on top. Nintendo said that the game will be getting online events in the future. Thanks to dataminers, though, we have a decent idea of other additions coming to the game in the form of new modes.
Dataminers uncovered the following text that hints at the new modes for Tetris 99:
– “Team Battle”: Two giant teams clash. Be on the winning side!”
– “COM Battle”: “Battle against 98 bots. Defeat the machines!” (supports both 99 Battle and Team Battle)
– “Marathon”: score attack -> 200 lines or endless
Marathon mode will also potentially support in-game achievements.
Tetris 99 came out of nowhere, being published by Nintendo and developed by Fighting EX Layer creators Arika. It’s making a strong case for diving into the new Nintendo Switch Online service, and hopefully these new modes will give the already addictive game even more longevity.
