Tetris 99 is the smash hit (the only hit?) to emerge from the Nintendo Switch Online service. But you know what’s better than playing a free game that comes with a Switch Online subscription? Paying for a physical version of that free online game! Tetris 99 physical copies will sell for $29.99 starting on Sept. 6, 2019, and in addition to including all released DLC so far, it will also include a free year of the online service in its price.
Now you can own a physical version of #Tetris99 with all of the latest DLC AND a 1-year #NintendoSwitchOnline subscription for $29.99. Grab your copy in stores and start playing on 9/6. pic.twitter.com/onW89TNSuF

If you’re thinking, “What the heck is the point of a physical copy of an online-only game?” there’s an answer to that. Later in the year, Tetris 99‘s Big Block DLC will enable two offline multiplayer modes. Nintendo Versus says, “Up to eight friends can battle together in Local Arena, while two players can share Joy-Con controllers in 2P Share Battle!”
The phrasing seems to imply that the offline modes won’t be a native inclusion on the cartridge release itself, which is a really bizarre decision if so. It’s a bit like selling one glove with the promise that the other glove is totally coming soon.
In any case, in just a couple months you can add Tetris 99 to your physical Nintendo Switch collection, if that’s what floats your boat. Congrats, sailor.
