Tetris is one of the most popular video game franchises ever. It made huge waves when it was first released in the 80s, and its popularity has remained rather high ever since. Nintendo has strong ties with the series too. While many remember the Game Boy for the Pokemon series, Tetris was another incredibly popular game on the equally popular handheld. The system even came bundled with a copy of the game for a period of time.

With such a high amount of popularity at its side, one can only wonder how its upcoming movie will fare. The Tetris movie will begin filming next year, first in China and then other locations. The cast will be a mix of Chinese and Westerners. The movie is set to kick off a trilogy, which is described as being a “sci-fi thriller”.

According to Larry Kasanoff, the movie’s co-producer, the movie is apparently “not at all what you think; it will be a cool surprise”. The movie will have a budget of $80 million.

How do you feel about the idea? Does the recent surge of video game movies worry or excite you? Sound off below!
