The 3DS just seems to be the system that refuses to go to bed. While new releases have mostly dried up, and advertising is minimal at this point, there is this little trend of the platform showing just a subtle tick of life every now and again. Sometimes it comes in the form of Nintendo briefly acknowledging the 3DS’ existence and subsequent refusal to discontinue it, and other times it comes in the form of a new system update. This time, it’s the latter.
Nintendo has rolled out a new firmware update for the system, in the form of Version 11.13.0-45U. What does it entail? Well, for once, it’s not another “stability update”! The patch notes actually reveal something different:
– Resolved an issue where StreetPass would not work in some cases.
Realistically, I wonder how many people there are that actually still carry their 3DS units out and about to actually make StreetPass still be viable. But, considering Nintendo went through the trouble of performing a bug fix, it must know that StreetPass still has a large enough user base to justify the work.
I personally haven’t used it since sometime in 2017 or maybe even 2016. What about you? Do you still carry your 3DS around? It would be cool if the Switch had such a feature.
