Geoff Keighley, producer of The Game Awards occurring next Thursday, Dec. 12, has taken to Reddit to do an AMA (“Ask Me Anything”). Among other things, he has revealed roughly how many new games the event will showcase: “I think there are around 10 new games/projects being revealed if you want to count the things that no one has heard about yet. As always the Internet has a lot of really bad information out there about what you think is at the show…but it sure is fun to read.” Additionally, there will be no rumored Resident Evil 3 remake from Capcom at the event, even though PlayStation Network practically guaranteed the game exists.
Keighley continues to claim, “Nothing about our show has leaked as of this writing.” If true, we should have some pretty big surprises ahead of us at The Game Awards. A lack of Resident Evil 3 isn’t entirely unexpected, as it’s at least likely to appear at Jump Festa in Japan this month. As for other potential announcements, Nintendo gamers are strongly suspecting the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Fighters Pass DLC #5 character will finally be revealed. Beyond that, it’s basically a big mystery what the event might reveal, which makes it genuinely exciting.
I personally don’t place any value in The Game Awards as an actual industry awards event; its value is squarely in being a mini (yet somehow still overly bloated?) E3. So whatever this event and Keighley have in store, consider my interest piqued. What about you?
