the last campfire release date hello games nintendo indie world showcase summer 2020 no man's sky

The Last Campfire was first shown off during the March Indie World Showcase. At the time, we weren’t sure how far along Hello Games was with development on its first game since No Man’s Sky. It turns out — pretty far, as the game is stealth releasing on all major platforms, including Nintendo Switch, on Aug. 27.

The Last Campfire is currently live on the Nintendo Switch eShop in Australia and Japan due to time zone differences. It will launch tomorrow in North America and Europe, when each eShop updates its new releases. To coincide with the surprise launch, Sean Murray from Hello Games took part in a developer commentary with PlayStation.

The world of The Last Campfire seems quite inviting, and the game looks wildly different from No Man’s Sky. In the commentary, Murray says that The Last Campfire is based in a “charming but dark world” where you play as a lost ember. Throughout your journey, you can choose whom you want to help in the world as you discover its mysteries. Hello Games says that the game can be challenging, but there’s an “Explorer” mode for those who just want to enjoy the world and interact with its characters.

The Last Campfire launches tomorrow in the U.S. and Europe on Switch.
