The Last of Us: Part II

2020 is still a few months and several highly anticipated releases from calling it quits, but we’ve seen enough big releases at this stage to have an idea of some contenders for Game of the Year. While the Switch has enjoyed a handful of great games (Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Super Mario 3D All-Stars, and Xenoblade Chronicles: Deluxe Edition all come to mind), I’d like for tonight to be about 2020 games outside of the Switch. Plenty of releases brought in tons of attention, like Final Fantasy VII Remastered, The Last of Us: Part II, and many more. Of all the games you’ve played outside of your Switch that released in 2020, what’s your game of the year thus far?

For me, The Last of Us: Part II is a runaway winner. Nothing else I’ve played in 2020 really comes close. The original The Last of Us was already one of my favorite games of all time, and the sequel’s improved gameplay and narrative packed with gut-punch after gut-punch made for an incredible experience that is one of my favorite games of the generation. Despite a long wait peppered with numerous delays, The Last of Us: Part II ultimately delivered in every way I’d hoped with a bleak but powerful story.

What’s your non-Switch game of the year thus far? Anything upcoming releases that you suspect could beat it before year’s end? Let us know in the comments below.
