Publisher Zordix Publishing and developer Rock Square Thunder have announced The Lightbringer for Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam. It is a story-driven and “poetic” adventure platformer with puzzles and some light combat elements. Your aim is to cleanse the corruption in the world, and “Guided by your sister’s spirit, you must prevail where she could not.” That last part is unexpectedly heavy. Incidentally, the Zordix website even includes a fictional letter from the sister written to the player.
As is evident from its announcement trailer, The Lightbringer draws influence from early entries in The Legend of Zelda, and the developers want to encourage players to check every little spot for secrets. In order to solve some puzzles, you will have to rotate the isometric camera to discover new angles. Otherwise, the game seems frankly pretty standard so far, in gameplay and story alike, and the visuals seem somewhat simple.
If you want 3D platformer adventures on Nintendo Switch, you have a good variety of options, including The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening of course. A less mainstream indie option might be Elli, and recently the similar-looking Omno was announced to be heading to Switch in 2021.
The Lightbringer is “coming soon” to Nintendo Switch and PC.
