Mortal Kombat movie reboot Rated R fatalities

Video game movies are back in style! With Mario, Sonic, and others headed to the big screen, Warner Bros. is planning to revive one of the earliest video game movie franchises. That’s right, Mortal Kombat is coming back! The series was in limbo for many years, and now it’s getting a reboot. The new take on the fighting franchise will be the most intense yet, as writer Greg Russo has confirmed that it will be rated R. Additionally, it will be the first movie to feature the games’ brutal and iconic Fatalities.

Mortal Kombat movie reboot details

The Mortal Kombat movie reboot is currently scheduled to hit theaters on March 5, 2021. Simon McQuoid, best known for directing the popular PlayStation 3 “Michael” commercial, is directing. He and writer Russo are not yet well-known as filmmakers, but they’re both big fans of the games. Hopefully they can deliver a movie that lives up to the expectations of other longtime fans. James Wan (SawFurious 7Aquaman) has also joined the project as a producer.

Officially, we do not know the current plot of the Mortal Kombat reboot. Earlier this year an alleged plot summary and (partial) character list leaked. Warner Bros. has neither confirmed nor denied the accuracy of the leak at this time. You can check out the alleged story and character details by clicking here. What we do know is that it’s being filmed in Australia and local officials claim it will be “the biggest studio production in the local industry’s history.” Barring a delay, we’ll see what Warner Bros. has been cooking up in a little less than two years.
