The Pokémon Company has announced that it will be donating at least $5 million to nonprofit organizations around the world. This news comes hot on the heels of the $100,000 that the company had already decided to split between Black Lives Matter and the NAACP earlier this month, and it mirrors the actions of Pokémon GO developer Niantic, which recently pledged a minimum $5 million to assorted causes. This new donation will help improve the lives of children, focusing on equity, inclusion, and diversity, and it is part of the company’s ongoing commitment to the black community.

The Pokémon Company explained that it’ll be making this donation following this year’s Pokémon GO Fest. The event is set to take place between July 25 and 26 and will bring a host of special activities to the game for players to enjoy.
Pokémon GO Fest 2020 will see a peak in Pokémon GO players. No doubt there will be promotional activities that make hatching eggs and earning candies much faster, which will bring many players back in order to take advantage of the event. This will also cause a peak in player spending, which makes it the most sensible time for The Pokémon Company and Niantic to be making substantial pledges like this.
