Back in a March Nindies Showcase, Timberline Studio made the formal announcement for their game, The Red Lantern, for Nintendo Switch. Their website describes it succinctly: “The Red Lantern is a rogue-lite, narrative game where you and your team of 5 sled dogs, lost in the wilderness, must navigate the ever-changing events of the Alaskan bush to find your way home.” Basically, the game is about training for the Iditarod and having a pretty bad time of it. Originally set to release last year, The Red Lantern will now release in 2020, according to their Twitter.
Hello! We love your excitement for The Red Lantern and can’t wait to share it with you. However, to make a game with all the pupper action we want, we’ll need some more time to get it ready and will now be releasing in 2020. We’ll have more to share very soon! pic.twitter.com/fMIvm1EqFf

Since the game’s big reveal, Timberline Studio has revealed virtually nothing about The Red Lantern, despite all the intrigue the game inspired with its announcement. However, it will reportedly appear at Double Fine and iam8bit’s Day of the Devs event in San Francisco, CA on Nov. 10, so we should finally learn some new details soon.
Sled dogs and the Iditarod are a largely unexplored area for survival video games, to my knowledge, so this should be a pretty unique experience for Nintendo Switch owners and for gamers in general. Take a look at the announcement trailer if you need a refresher on what to expect with The Red Lantern.
