The United Kingdom has a reputation for being the smallest of the major markets for Nintendo. Sales there generally aren’t anything to ride home about, especially when compared to that of North America and Japan. That’s why this latest report from GameIndustry is rather surprising news in the world of Switch sales.
It turns out that the hybrid system and its little handheld-only sidekick managed to achieve the top of hardware charts for February 2020 over in the UK. While a specific number was not provided, it has been mentioned that the neon-colored flagship Switch is the best selling version in the country. It is mentioned that 71,000 game machines were sold in the UK for February, so the Switch makes up the biggest chunk of that number.
Meanwhile, and rather unsurprisingly, the PS4 and Xbox One are seeing a sales decline in the region. Considering that we’re just a few months away from the launches of their successors, this is to be expected. Though, it’s still unclear if they’ll actually meet that target due to the COVID-19 outbreak causing the temporary shutdown of workplaces over in China. If a delay does occur, then that will buy the Switch some more time in the spotlight, but the reason is still very unfortunate.
