The Witcher: Fading Memories comic book Dark Horse Comics Bartosz Sztybor, Amad Mir, CD Projekt Red

Dark Horse Comics has announced a partnership with CD Projekt Red to create The Witcher: Fading Memories, a new comic book mini-series being written by Bartosz Sztybor and drawn by Amad Mir. The series will be four issues long, and the first will publish on June 17 with a cover (below) from artist Evan Cagle.

The official description for The Witcher: Fading Memories from Dark Horse Comics is as follows: “Geralt has become impoverished and dejected since monster threats have seemingly vanished. Times have always been hard for Witchers—but without continual work, his situation has worsened. As Geralt explores new possibilities for his life path, he receives a request from the Mayor of Towitz, a small town where children are being kidnapped by Foglets…but something feels off about this new threat.”

It’s alarming that an official description of a Witcher comic book incorrectly capitalizes “witcher,” but grammar Nazism aside, this sounds like a positive development. The Witcher Netflix series has been hot hot hot for bringing new eyes and new revenue to the property, so a comic book to heat things up even more was practically a foregone conclusion at this point. I’m not sure what the details are of CD Projekt Red’s contract with original series author Andrzej Sapkowski that they are able to take a cut of the profits from these non-video game multimedia offerings, but in any case, it seems they’re all enjoying quite the payday from this property.
