Square Enix The World Ends with You: The Anime trailer 2 release date April 2021 Japan Funimation Reaper's Game

It’s feast or famine for The World Ends with You fans, and today is most definitely feast. Square Enix has revealed a new trailer for its anime adaptation, The World Ends with You: The Animation, and it includes English subtitles so you’ll be able to make heads or tails of it. The series will premiere in Japan in April 2021, and Funimation will handle its English release with start date to be determined.

This particular trailer introduces the Reaper’s Game: “Survive for seven days, and you win. Fail and… face erasure.” Thus, protagonist Neku and companion Shiki have to complete missions and stay alive. (Beat, Rhyme, and Joshua are shown off as well.) The trailer reiterates the importance of bonds and trust in order to tap into the strongest power to survive. It also shows off the opening theme, “Teenage City Riot,” provided by ALI.

The World Ends with You: The Animation is shaping up to be everything fans could want from an anime based on the unusual Square Enix property. However, likely the news that has fans salivating the most today is the reveal of NEO: The World Ends with You, a new game entry in the franchise headed to Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 in summer 2021.
