I still vividly remember this one nightmare I had as a child; gravity just went sideways under my feet, the world (for some reason being a marble grey cube and not a familiar planet Earth) turned, and I fell into the void, screaming. That dream was outright terrifying for three or four year-old me. The only reason it all came back to me today is all courtesy of a Super Mario Maker 2 recreation of World 1-1 making the rounds online.

Thanks for that, Mario Maker.

Without question, World 1-1 from the original Super Mario Bros. on NES is one of the most iconic levels of all time in gaming. In fact, it’s also one of the levels that people love to remake at any given opportunity. To that end, DannyB created “1-1 Flipped on Its Side!” (Course ID: 9M3-SNK-WRF), which turns the simple Mario level into a deadly vertical gauntlet testing Mario’s jumping capabilities. One slip-up and you’re sent tumbling down below!

Feelings of vertigo aside, this stage does look like a fun challenge! Hell, I might give it a whirl later if I can stomach that steep, steep, steep climb. If you’re feeling daring, go ahead and download 1-1 Flipped for yourself! Let us know how you managed in the comments.
