Those Who Remain from Camel 101 and Wired Productions launches today on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. A Switch version is also in development, with a planned release window of summer 2020. This psychological horror game’s perspective reminds me of Layers of Fear, while its setting evokes some old-school Silent Hill vibes.
The launch trailer has just been released and focuses on the decisions made by the player throughout the experience. The game features exploration, physics-based puzzles, and some moral player choices, like choosing to forgive or condemn local people who are caught up in the events of Those Who Remain. Frequent messages pop up throughout the clip, with things like “Become the judge of lost souls” and “Will you offer salvation or damnation?” ostensibly putting a strong focus on player choice.
It certainly remains to be seen how these choices will pan out in the end. It would be nice if player decisions have a real effect on the overall story, which could add some replayability to the experience. The atmosphere looks foreboding enough, with Camel 101 matching the vibe of some our favorite horror titles. However, our sister site PC Invasion describes the game as pretty painfully generic in its review, so maybe give that a read ahead of the game’s Switch launch.
