Transformers: Battlegrounds is out now on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One with a launch trailer from publisher Outright Games and developer Coatsink. The launch trailer shows off the game’s strategy elements, alongside just barely talking about more of the story. Bumblebee, Optimus Prime, Grimlock, Starscream, and Megatron all battle against evil to take control of the AllSpark. The story is playable in both single player and co-op play for two players.
The game features iconic Transformers locations to fight over, such as Central City and Cybertron. I’d have liked to see even more action-packed gameplay though, as Battlegrounds‘ strategic nature makes the whole thing look a bit slow. There are three difficulty modes on offer, so maybe cranking up the difficulty could provide an engaging enough experience.
As we’ve previously detailed, there are a couple versions of the game. Alongside the standard edition is the Transformers: Battlegrounds Digital Deluxe Edition, which contains an exclusive mode and some cosmetics. CUBE is an arcade mode that pits Autobots against Decepticons in a battle to capture an objective. I’m not sure locking a mode to a deluxe edition that’s only available digitally is the best move, but that’s what Outright Games and apparently Coatsink have chosen.
Transformers: Battlegrounds costs $39.99 for the standard edition, and the Digital Deluxe Edition is $49.99.
