The latest entry in the German ratings board lists Trine 3 for Switch. It’s not confirmation… yet, but is one of the last steps to approve your game. It shouldn’t be too long before developer Frozenbyte announces it themselves.

History with Nintendo

Frozenbyte isn’t shy to Nintendo consoles either, they’ve released Trine: Enchanted Edition and Trine 2: Director’s Cut on Wii U. They’ve also worked with the Switch with games like Has-Been Heroes and Nine Parchments. Several months after release, they also stated that Has-Been Heroes sold the best on Switch. It did release in the same month as Switch, but it wasn’t exclusive and appeared on PC, PS4, and Xbox One on the same day. So they have both the experience and incentive to release their acclaimed series on a console that gobbles up indie games.

Porting past games

In an interview with wccftech nearly a year ago, Frozenbyte talked about Nine Parchments and that they’ve enjoyed their time developing on Switch a lot. When asked directly about the likelihood of porting previous games like Trine or Shadwen, they had this to say.

I’d say the odds are in favor of the Trine games over Shadwen definitely, but it remains to be seen. They could be a good fit so we’ll see what next year brings.

It’s been roughly a year since that statement, and it looks like it’s becoming reality. Depending on the developer, it’s common for a port to take around a year to develop. The timing of their statement along with the rating lines up well for the port.

Have you played the series before? Are you waiting for a Switch port announcement before picking it up? We’ve reviewed both Trine: Enchanted Edition and Trine 2: Director’s Cut here at Nintendo Enthusiast and they were very well received. You shouldn’t have to wait too long before the third installment is announced and released for Switch.
