Publisher Annapurna Interactive has announced that developer Luis Antonio’s time-loop thriller Twelve Minutes is coming to Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5 with a release date of December 7, 2021. (Europe gets the Switch release on December 21.) The game originally launched for Xbox and PC back in August, and it stars James McAvoy, Daisy Ridley, and Willem Dafoe. The premise is that you are stuck in a time loop as the same 12 minutes play out over and over, with you always getting murdered at the end by a police detective that breaks into your house and accuses your wife of murder. A Twelve Minutes accolades trailer teases what to expect when the game comes to Nintendo Switch and PlayStation.
The game certainly looks and sounds cool, but the critical and fan reception to it on initial release was intensely mixed. Suffice to say, the game has a twist ending that some people are fine with and that others thought was ridiculous. Sister site The Escapist even compared the twist to a very particular episode of Law & Order: SVU, which executed the same concept (sans time loop) much better. While I haven’t played Twelve Minutes, I do already know the twist (and agree it’s bizarre), so I will likely be skipping it on Switch and PlayStation upon its release date next month. But hey, mileage will vary, and some people love this game! So draw your own conclusions.
