Ubisoft Nintendo Switch top third-party publisher Just Dance 2020 2021 Immortals Fenyx Rising Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle

Ubisoft has released its Q3 2020-2021 financial results, which was a record quarter for the company. According to data based upon units sold as recorded by “NPD for NCSA and GSD/GfK for EMEA,” Ubisoft was the leader for unit sales across all platforms as a publisher in 2020, thanks to its diverse portfolio of games like Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Watch Dogs: Legion, and new IP Immortals Fenyx Rising. Additionally, Ubisoft was the “top third-party publisher” on Nintendo Switch in 2020, with Just Dance 2020 being its 8th bestseller.

Ubisoft Chief Financial Officer Frederick Duguet offered a relevant comment: “We’re also reaping the benefits of the Switch’s huge success and our position as leading third-party publisher on the platform thanks to, among others, our Just Dance games and Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle.” More generally, net bookings of Just Dance 2021 across platforms are also “up sharply.”

Whether you love or ignore its franchises, there’s no denying that Ubisoft is a massive industry player looking to get its finger in every possible pie. More importantly, the company has seemed to be reemphasizing quality ever since the failed launch of Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Breakpoint in 2019. In 2020, we loved Immortals Fenyx Rising on Switch as a distinctly Ubisoft riff on The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and its upcoming Star Wars game with Massive Entertainment sounds promising despite sparse details.

Ubisoft’s major competition, EA and Activision Blizzard, aren’t rolling over and dying though. EA developer BioWare hasn’t ruled out Mass Effect Legendary Edition for Switch, and Activision Blizzard announced Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time for Switch just today.
