UNO is one of the most popular tabletop games out there, and it’s been available digitally for a little while now. Now, Ubisoft is releasing a new DLC pack for the UNO videogame to honor the real-life version’s 50th anniversary.
This new 50th Anniversary DLC decks out the card deck with a full set of all-black cards; the polar opposite of the black-and-white design that’s typically used. The celebration theme also carries over to the game board, which now glistens in all gold and black, along with a gold commemorative coin.
But, the party isn’t just for show. The game has also been outfitted with a powerful new rule that’s brought forth by the new 50/50 card. How it works is that when someone throws down the 50/50 card, the aforementioned coin is tossed to see who has the unfortunate privilege of drawing four cards from the deck. As someone who’s played many an UNO game in real life, I can’t count how many times I’ve been bamboozled by getting so close to reducing my hand, only to get slammed with a “Draw 4!” card at the last possible moment. Thus, the new 50/50 card seems to reduce the likelihood of this happening in virtual form by just a little bit.
If the Anniversary DLC sounds like it’ll make your game night sparkle, then you can slam down $2.99 onto the Nintendo eShop and pick it up as of today.
For those of you who don’t own UNO on Switch but may want to pick it up, you may be surprised to know that Nintendo’s own (surprisingly polished) Clubhouse Games collection that released last year features a very similar minigame called “Last Card”. It’s virtually the exact same rules and mechanics as UNO, albeit with the lack of branding. Considering that it comes along with 50 other minigames, it’s worth a try.
