Wartile Viking Strategy Game Playwood Project Deck13 out now Nintendo Switch eShop United States Europe later

We know there’s a pretty big Viking game coming out this year, which happens to share the same initials as Animal Crossing.  However, there’s no such luck for Nintendo Switch owners, as that game isn’t launching here. Viking strategy game Wartile is though, from developer Playwood Project and publisher Deck13, and it is available now in the United States. A new trailer accompanies the announcement.

Wartile is a Viking strategy game that takes cues from tabletop games. The way that Wartile lays out its characters and world looks just like in a Warhammer table, with each level looking quite unique. There are Viking forts, icy lakes, and war-torn villages to battle on, and they all look nicely detailed on Switch.

The game is cool-down based, with Playwood Project looking to allow extra breathing room for tactical decisions. It still contains the strategic elements found in turn-based games though, so it should be familiar for fans of that combat style. Publisher Deck13 says that, at its core, Wartile is a game about “positioning and tactical decision-making.”

As we’re over two years on from the initial PC release, the Switch version contains a bundled DLC pack. The Hel’s Nightmare expansion continues the story, bringing five brand new handcrafted battle boards to Wartile.

Wartile is out now on the U.S. Nintendo Switch eShop, with the Europe releasing coming Nov. 16.
