Early last year we reported on one Animal Crossing fan who had poured over 3,500 hours into Animal Crossing: New Leaf. She even gave the world a tour of the town she’d worked on over the previous four years. We’re very pleased to say that this now 89-year-old Animal Crossing fan, Grandma Audrey, has given a tour of her island in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. She’s only been able to put about three hours a day into the game though, so this island is nowhere near the same level as the four-year-old Animal Crossing: New Leaf save file she has.

Audrey had over three months of work into the island at the time this was filmed. It’s a lovely island to look at. You can tell that a lot of time has gone into the details. For example, there are flowers flanking pretty much every building. This makes it look like someone has put some love into the island, a nice change from the islands clearly built for harvesting rare bugs or flowers.

It’s always interesting to see how players take a game as open as Animal Crossing: New Horizons and do some unbelievable things with it. We’ve seen Pallet Town recreations and have all manner of QR codes for outfits. It’s also just nice to see charming and intimate works like Grandma Audrey has created, and it’s no wonder that the game’s community has latched onto her story. She’s become an icon for the game, and people are excited to see where she takes her island next.

Started out playing Metroid 2 on the GameBoy at around 5 years-old, and now I write about games all day long. Can't play Switch and drive, I've tried. As time goes on the Switch is quickly becoming my favourite console of all time.
