It’s been a long road to this point. We’ve come from the Super Mario Maker 2 Direct in May, then the Pokémon Sword & Shield Direct last week. The first two days of E3 treated us to several potentially outstanding third party and indie games coming to the Switch, including lost gems like Final Fantasy VIII, the uproariously bloody Doom Eternal, and the thematically heavy Spiritfarer. But alas, these were ultimately just the warmup acts. Today, it’s finally Nintendo’s time to shine with the E3 2019 Nintendo Direct at 9AM PT/12PM ET!
For the approximate forty minute presser, Nintendo has a lot of ground to cover. Going by the online adverts, we can definitely expect updates on Luigi’s Mansion 3, the Switch remake of The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening, and Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order. I also can’t forget to mention Cadence of Hyrule, Fire Emblem: Three Houses and Platinum Games’ Astral Chain, all due for release sometime this summer.
That said, there are a few names that have gone without updates for some time. A new Animal Crossing was announced during the September 2018 Direct but was conspicuously absent from the February showcase. Preoccupied as we are with the new Pokémon games, there is still so much more to learn about Game Freak’s Town (working title). Players who enjoyed the Daemon X Machina February demo are also itching to know more about the mech action game, and if it will still make its scheduled 2019 release. Might we finally learn more about these titles?
Finally, Masahiro Sakurai confirmed that Nintendo will reveal Super Smash Bros. Ultimate‘s new fighter during the Direct. Who or what could possibly follow in Joker’s footsteps tomorrow? I can’t wait to find out!
In any case, it’s almost showtime. What kind of reveals are you itching to see in today’s Nintendo Direct? Share your thoughts with us in the comments!
