\”LEVEL-5 WORLD\” COMING UP
Level 5 World is around the corner and you should mark your calendars for October 15-16 so you won\’t miss out on all the big news coming from the event. Of course, Level 5 is known as the company behind the Professor Layton series but their original works-in-the-makings seem like they will continue in the tradition of imaginative, artistically-drawn games. Level 5 World will be accompanied by something called Level 5 Vision Conference, which seems like it will be a streamed (at least in Japan) live event for announcements and previews of all their upcoming titles. A partial list of games to be playable at the event has been released. These are the five titles on 3DS that have been revealed so far:
1. Professor Layton VS Ace Attorney (3DS)
The game takes place in a different universe from the existing Professor Layton and Ace Attorney universes. Both Professor Layton and Phoenix Wright, along with their respective assistants Luke Triton and Maya Fey, find themselves in a different world from their own, where the strange medieval city known as Labyrinth City has been victim to a number of \”impossible\” occurrences. The town is allegedly home to witches who hide in the shadows, and is supposedly controlled by an evil villain known as the Story Teller. Central to the plot is a young girl named Mahoney who is accused of witchcraft. As Phoenix decides to defend Mahoney in a witch trial, Layton seeks to figure out the mystery behind Labyrinth City, with the two not always seeing eye to eye. The game will feature voice acting and animated cutscenes, a staple in the Professor Layton games but a first for the Ace Attorney series.
2. Time Travelers (3DS)
Described as a “time travel suspense†that is “set in a world of a grand scale,†the game has two central characters: Skeleton (a terrorist) and Mikoto Shinmichi, both of whom have the ability to know the future.
3. Fantasy Life (3DS)
Fantasy Life is an RPG, co-developed between Level 5 and Brownie Brown, the brains behind Magical Vacation (GBA) and Magical Starsign (DS). The artstyle looks reminiscent of Studio Ghibli films and it was announced that Yoshitaka Amano, an artist for the Final Fantasy series, and Nobuo Uematsu, famous Final Fantasy musical composer, are both working on the game.
4. Girl’s RPG: Cinderelife (3DS)
5. Inazuma Eleven Go (3DS)
6. and 7. Don\’t forget two other games that will be featured there. One is Ni No Kuni (PS3), which is being made made in collaboration with the critically acclaimed Studio Ghibli. And the other is the rumor game that was tweeted from Level-5’s Akihiro Hino. The name he gave was \’Kua.\’ According to Level 5, there may still be more games announced, possibly even playable at the event.
–Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3 has been given a rating, which basically confirms it as an upcoming 3DS Virtual Console title. It also makes sense, seeing as Super Mario Land 1 and 2 have already been released on the 3DS as Virtual Console titles.
–Suda51 said that we will be hearing something new eventually about another No More Heroes title for next year, possibly on 3DS and Vita.
–Intelligents Systems will be releasing their first 3DS downloadable game, Hiku Osu, in the Nintendo eShop on October 5, for 700 yen. It’s all about pushing and pulling blocks around. At the game’s opening, a town has been mysteriously covered in the titular hiko-osu blocks. Playing as a community-minded fellow called Maro, it’s your job to move these blocks to form pathways through each level. With more than 250 stages and a level-editor, Hiku-osu promises hours of block-manoeuvring fun. What’s more, certain levels will have you pushing blocks into the shapes of various 8-bit Nintendo characters, just to tickle the nostalgia glands of Nintendo gamers everywhere.
–Meta Knight has been officially banned from Super Smash Bros. Brawl tournament play in North America because players felt his abilities were out of balance with the other characters.
–A press release from Nintendo of America has confirmed that they’re teaming up with DreamWorks Animation, 3net, and Blue Man Group to bring more 3D videos to the 3DS.
[Editor’s Note: Up next is the Nintendo Commentary which will come some time before Saturday. Then, between Saturday and Tuesday there will be Part 2 of the Zelda feature and another Indie Gaming Roundup.]
