Naturally, we humans are a curious bunch — even if it’s about the most absurd things, such as what Kirby’s feet might look like under those red shoes. Well, Kotaku decided to take a stab at discovering the nature of Kirby’s feet in an interview with chief creator Shinya Kumazaki and HAL Laboratory, the studio behind Kirby. The question all started over a fan-created comic strip that went viral in 2017. It displayed a potentially disturbing look at the feet behind the red shoes. I would have just assumed they looked similar to his other two visible appendages that we can see: the arms. But, here’s another visual for you.

So, Kotaku posed the question asking just what, exactly, do Kirby’s feet look like inside of those red shoes? Unfortunately, Kumazaki wouldn’t talk instead labeling the whole idea as “top secret.”
“It’s definitely a unique question,” Kumazaki stated. “I couldn’t help laughing a bit. But I’m afraid the mysterious composition of Kirby’s body is top secret.”
Not only are the details of his feet under lock and key, but we don’t even know what Kirby is made of. Does he have innards like us? Or is he full of air? Questions like these can drive a person mad. So, it’s best not to entertain those thoughts.
Kamazaki did, however, share some details behind the animation of Kirby running:
“Kirby’s body is uniquely shaped compared to us humans, but the animation we designed is reminiscent of movement that’s not so different from humans walking. It was created based on the idea of a human running energetically, with the thighs, knees, and ankles invisible, but nevertheless accounted for.”
I suppose if the thighs, knees, and ankles weren’t accounted for, he’d have to waddle like a penguin. So, it seems that this is the extent of Kirby anatomy 101 we’ll be getting for this go around.
