Upon waking and opening up your favorite Nintendo Switch game today, you’ll be told by Isabelle that you can now participate in an Animal Crossing: New Horizons May Day Tour. Don’t worry — most people had never heard of it. That’s why we’ve put together this little guide for the event, as well as a couple of tips to bear in mind.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons May Day Tour
May Day is an event that will last from today until May 7. It’s the latest in the current series of events hitting the game and should give you a reason to come back to it for May, aside from the new bugs and fish.
As I mentioned, Isabelle is going to tell you about the new tour you can take by grabbing a May Day Ticket from Tom Nook. These work differently from Nook Miles Tickets, which take you to a mystery island with new resources and potential characters to recruit. Instead, the May Day Ticket takes you on a May Day Tour, a trip to another kind of mysterious island.
On your tour, you won’t have access to anything that was in your pockets when you left your island. That’s because this island is a challenge. Here you’ll find a maze that you must get through using only your wits. Along the way you’ll have a few puzzles that should put your Animal Crossing knowledge to the test, but we won’t spoil anything for you here. What we will say is that you should bear a few things in mind, including the following:
- You’ll find tools in the maze, but they won’t be that good.
- Think about which trees you want to chop down and bushes you want to dig up.
- There’s a finite amount of fruit on the island; don’t waste it.
- Explore as much as you can at the start. Then come back to try and solve any puzzles you’ve encountered.
- Note down where you’ve seen key resources as you work your way through the maze.
- You can still use your phone to escape if you get stuck; don’t be afraid to take a risk.
If you’re thinking that the rewards for this maze aren’t worth it, you’re wrong. The first thing you’ll get is a collection of Bell Vouchers, items which can be sold at Nook’s Cranny for a fair few Bells. But there’s also a new character to meet, Rover. Animal Crossing fans will know exactly who Rover is. While he isn’t going to set up a new game for you this time around, he will give you a special item that’s specific to him. He even hints that he may see you again soon.
Unfortunately, you can’t get a second May Day Ticket for a second tour, only the one. Make sure you give yourself a decent chunk of time to complete your maze, because there are bound to be hundreds of different variations to work through. You’ve got until May 7 to fly away on your tour, so try to plan it in before the ticket expires.
