Ultimate Chicken Horse

The Switch is indie heaven. Something about the hybrid console makes it really enticing for playing your favorite indie titles over and over and over again, and that’s only accentuated by the eShop’s vast library of classic indie titles old and new. Of all of the fantastic indie titles on the system, which is your most played?

Ultimate Chicken Horse, a multiplayer game where you and your friends slowly add pieces and traps to a 2D platforming level while playing through it as it develops, is the leader for me at forty hours and counting. I’ve written at length about what makes this game so special – it’s accessible, inventive, and insanely competitive. The very definition of “easy to learn, hard to master.” Ultimate Chicken Horse rewards creativity and skillful platforming as you come up with inventive ways to terrorize your friends. The game is one of my most frequently played on Switch (I played it yesterday and will play it again tomorrow) because everyone loves it so damn much, from my sisters to my girlfriend to my best friends. Whenever the Switch comes out, people rarely ask about Mario Kart 8 Deluxe or Super Mario Party. It’s always Ultimate Chicken Horse. Heck, even Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has been ineffective in shaking many of my friends from the game.

What’s your most played indie game on Switch? What made you play it so much? Tell us your story in the comments.
