Pokémon Sword and Shield are in hot water in certain corners of the Pokémon fandom. The biggest gripe for most is the fact that the games won’t feature a National Dex. Some Pokémon from past games will show up in Galar, but not all. Based on recent comments from producer Junichi Masuda, it sounds like this may be the new standard. You may never be able to Catch ’em All in one game ever again. But aside from being a catchy slogan, how much does that phrase really mean to you? When was the last time you actually filled out your National Dex completely?
Do you still Catch ’em All?
As each new generation adds dozens more monsters, that task is nearly impossible these days. There are now over 1,000 Pokémon to capture, including alternate forms. To be honest, I think the last fully new generation that inspired me to Catch ’em All was Gold and Silver. I filled out my Pokédex in the Let’s Go games, but that was a much smaller task. There’s basically no chance I would have filled out a National Dex in Galar. That said, I’m eager to see the full list of Pokémon that will be available. There are definitely plenty of favorites I’d be sad to leave behind.
So how about you? Do you Catch ’em All every gen, or do you take a more casual approach? What Pokémon are absolute musts to show up in the Galar Region in your book? Leave your thoughts in the comments below!
