At long last, the new Special Research quest players have been waiting for has gone live in Pokémon GO. After teasing its arrival over the past few days, Niantic has revealed that the Wish Pokémon Jirachi is now available for everyone to capture starting today. Just like Mew, Celebi, and Meltan, you must first complete a long series of unique Field Research assignments before you can catch it.

Wish upon a star

In the new quest “A Thousand-Year Slumber,” Professor Willow is focusing his sights on the Hoenn region after uncovering leads on a never-before-seen Pokémon. Naturally, he tasks you to help him in his special research!

This is Jirachi’s first public appearance in Pokémon GO; the Wish Pokémon was a reward for completing exclusive Special Research quests in GO Fest Chicago, Dortmund, and Yokohama. In Pokémon GO, Jirachi comes with Confusion and Charge Beam as its Fast Attacks; its Charged Attacks are Dazzling Gleam, Psychic, and its signature move Doom Desire.

Clocked in as Pokémon #385, Jirachi is a Steel and Psychic Mythical Pokémon from Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire. It is said to sleep for a thousand years, granting wishes when it is awake for seven days before returning to its slumber. It was also the focal Pokémon for the Pokémon anime’s sixth movie, Jirachi: Wish Maker.

In addition to Jirachi, Niantic has officially announced Ultra Bonuses, as thanks for participating throughout the summer’s Global Research assignments. From September 2 to September 9, the following Johto Journey bonuses will go live:

As a huge fan of Pokémon Black and White, I’m especially looking forward to fifth generation Pokémon making their debut in the mobile game.

That said, I’m already hard at work on “A Thousand-Year Slumber,” but what about yourselves? Are you excited to finally add Jirachi to your collection? Or are you looking further ahead to Unova already? Let us know in the comments below!
