Arcade1Up has made its exciting final announcement for a new home arcade machine, this time being a 4-player cabinet for the 1992 Konami game X-Men. X-Men was another early ’90s arcade game that hoovered quarters and hated you but was fun with friends. The game lets you play as Cyclops, Wolverine, Colossus, Storm, Nightcrawler, or Dazzler, fighting Magneto and the Brotherhood of Mutants. The art designs were based on the discarded Pryde of the X-Men animated pilot, as the massively popular Fox Kids X-Men cartoon would not premiere until later in that year. Additionally, this Arcade1Up home arcade cabinet of X-Men 1992 also includes Captain America and the Avengers and The Avengers in Galactic Storm as bonus games, and Wi-Fi comes built into the cabinet.
Basically, the singular bummer about this cabinet is that it is not the 6-player version of the unit. If I were to hazard a guess, I would say it might be because the fat size of the 6-player unit would make it not as easy to manufacture. Whatever the reason, 4-player X-Men is still a very cool thing to plop in your home.
Preorders for 4-player X-Men 1992 from Konami begin at Arcade1Up on July 15. If you missed it, check out the other Arcade1Up announcements for The Simpsons, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time, Street Fighter II Big Blue, and Ms. Pac-Man/Galaga Class of ’81 cabinets.
