Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition Definitive Works Set release date May 29 launch Monolith Soft

Completely out of freaking nowhere, Nintendo dropped a “Nintendo Direct Mini,” and now we’re scrambling to unpack it all! First and most excitingly though, Monolith Soft‘s Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition is arriving on Nintendo Switch on May 29, and it’s getting a collector’s edition called Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Works Set, which features a 250-page art book of game environments, monsters, and more. And most intriguingly of all, this Switch remaster of the Wii original will include a brand new epilogue, “Future Connected,” which will expand the story and provide “one more adventure” for Shulk.

Beyond that, the HUD has been improved and some music has been re-recorded, which are both welcome advances as well. The new trailer for Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition hasn’t been separately uploaded to YouTube yet, but you can enjoy it right at the start of the Nintendo Direct Mini itself.

[Update: The trailer itself has been added to the article.]

Everything about the game just looks… wonderful. Monolith Soft put everything it had into a new kind of open-world JRPG experience upon this game’s original release, and I honestly think it’s the best by far of the Xenoblade entries so far. If you’ve only played the second direct entry on Switch, you’re in for a really big treat when Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition (and Definitive Works Set) finally gets its May 29 release date.

Will you be picking it up?
