XIII remake for Nintendo Switch Publisher Microids and developer PlayMagic

Remember XIII on the GameCube (and the Xbox and PlayStation 2)? It was an FPS developed by Ubisoft Paris and released back in the tense, paranoid era of 2003. Owing to its origins as a comic book, XIII had slick cel-shaded graphics that were coming into fashion around that time. The game ultimately released to a lukewarm reception, but that hasn’t stopped developers from taking a second look at the title: Publisher Microids and developer PlayMagic are remaking XIII for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. It will release on November 13.

PlayMagic is promising to modernize the gameplay mechanics and upgrade the visuals while retaining the overall strong aesthetic. Microids further adds this:

XIII is a first-person shooter where you play as “Thirteen,” a talented soldier who lost his memory and has been accused of killing the President of the United States. You first wake up injured and amnesic on Brighton Beach with the only clue being a small key and a mysterious tattoo that reads “XIII” next to your clavicle. It’s now your job to search for answers through a 34-level solo campaign. Don’t worry, you will find the appropriate weapon arsenal along the way. So many questions… so many bullets!

You can check out the teaser — and that’s really all it is — below.

I’ve never been much of an FPS guy, but the ones with a distinct identity like this are more likely to get my attention. Here’s to hoping XIII can surpass the original and become a real statement piece for the genre.
