The Switch remake of The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening is superb. Granted, too many upgrades are tied to the Chamber Dungeons, but other than that, it’s a fantastic update. One thing gamers might have missed in the reimagining is the return of Grandma Yahoo’s beloved catchphrase. While she uttered “Yahoo!” in the original game, the exclamation was changed in the 3DS Virtual Console port due to possible legal ramifications.

Perhaps Yahoo! is to blame

What could be the reason for the change? As a professional translator, Clyde Mandelin, surmises, Nintendo might have been wary of the American web services provider, Yahoo! Legal disputes are a messy business, after all. Who has the time to drag petty disagreements out in a court of law?

However, as evidenced up top, the Switch remake brings back the “Yahoo!” yell. Either Nintendo worked it out with the company or it realized copyrighted words is a ridiculous thing to get sued over.

Enthusiasts, did you notice the alteration on your 3DS? Are you happy Grandma Yahoo is back to her old self? Let us know your feelings on the situation below.
