It seems like the Wii U HD re-release of Yakuza 1 & 2 was not worth it at all for Nintendo or Sega, as the game sold less than 1,878 copies in its first week on sale in Japan.

Dengeki released its full software sales charts  for the week of August 5-11, but Yakuza 1 & 2 HD were nowhere to be found. Sitting at number 50 was Battlefield 3, with 1,878 copies sold, meaning that Yakuza 1 & 2 HD sold less than that amount.

These sales are quite disappointing since Yakuza 1 & 2 HD was one of the flagship games within Nintendo’s newest partnership with Sega. Even worse, these sales make a western release even more unlikely.

What do you guys think of the sales? Did you expect such an abysmal performance, or did you think the game would perform better. After all, with such a killer commercial, how could the game fail?
