Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair teased for October release

Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair is the follow-up to Playtonic’s 2017 Yooka-Laylee, though the two don’t share a ton in common beyond characters and an art aesthetic. Impossible Lair plays like a 2D platformer in the vein of Donkey Kong Country, whereas Yooka-Laylee was definitively a revival of the Banjo-Kazooie 3D exploration style. Each genre has its fans, and it’s not always a perfect 1:1 overlap, but plenty of people are still psyched for Impossible Lair. And a new video tease from Playtonic Twitter confirms (in a roundabout way) that the game will release this October.

You can never accuse Playtonic of having no sense of humor. And for that matter, we probably can’t accuse them of lacking imagination either. They’ve already shown off some creative levels where the design and gameplay seem to change radically according to actions you take on the 3D overworld map. Likewise, a whole hour of gameplay footage has already been displayed, if you just would rather die than wait any longer for more of the game.

Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair will release for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC apparently in time for Halloween. Let us know which character you’re planning to dress up as!
