This week we not only got news that Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition will launch in May, but we also found out that there’s an entirely new epilogue. Xenoblade Chronicles: Future Connected is a new chapter in the game that has never been seen before. While we don’t know quite what the story will be, we do know that you can play it without finishing the main game first, thanks to an article from Nintendo’s Japanese website.
While the post that discusses the finer details of Xenoblade Chronicles: Future Connected is in Japanese, we have a translation thanks to PushDustIn. The Source Gaming founder was able to confirm this detail, that you can indeed access the epilogue at boot-up.

So that’s that: It is possible to play Future Connected from the main menu. This would be somewhat similar to how it is possible to play Torna: The Golden Country in Xenoblade Chronicles 2 without working through the main game’s story first. This would open up the possibility for old fans of the game to play that new epilogue first, if they’re low on time or just keen to experience the new story content first.
Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition launches on May 29, 2020.
